Locksmith 4 Less

Chrysler Locksmith in Memphis, TN

Chrysler may have a smaller lineup today than it did a decade ago, but there are still plenty of Chrysler vehicles on Memphis roads. The 300 remains a popular sedan, the Pacifica is one of the best-selling minivans in the country, and older models like the Town & Country, PT Cruiser, and Sebring are still in daily use across the metro.
All of these vehicles use key and security systems developed under the Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep (now Stellantis) umbrella. If you need a key replaced, a fob programmed, or help getting back into a locked Chrysler, Locksmith 4 Less has the brand-specific tools and experience to handle it at your location.

Chrysler's Key Systems

How Chrysler Key Security Works

Chrysler vehicles share their key platform with Dodge and Jeep since all three brands fall under the same parent company. The security systems are closely related, but each model can have its own specific configuration. Here is what that looks like across Chrysler’s history:

Chrysler vehicles

Chrysler vehicles share their key platform with Dodge and Jeep since all three brands fall under the same parent company. The security systems are closely related, but each model can have its own specific configuration. Here is what that looks like across Chrysler's history:

SKIM system (late 1990s to early 2010s)

Chrysler's Sentry Key Immobilizer Module was introduced in the late 1990s and used across models like the 300M, Sebring, Concorde, and PT Cruiser. The key contains a transponder chip that communicates with a ring antenna around the ignition cylinder. If the chip code does not match, the engine cranks but will not start.

Fobik keys (mid-2000s to present)

Chrysler was one of the first manufacturers to adopt the "Fobik" format, which combines the remote buttons and the transponder into a single plastic unit with no traditional key blade. Instead of a metal key, the Fobik has an integrated emergency blade tucked inside the fob body. Models like the 300, Town & Country, and early Pacifica use this system.

Proximity smart keys (2017 to present).

The current Chrysler Pacifica and Chrysler 300 use a push-button smart key system. The driver carries the fob, the car detects it wirelessly, and the engine starts with a button press. No key blade touches the ignition.

Services

Chrysler Locksmith Services We Provide

Car Key Replacement

We replace all Chrysler key types, from traditional transponder keys to Fobik units to proximity smart keys. If you have lost every key, we create one from scratch at your location.

Car Key Programming

Every Chrysler key from the late 1990s forward requires electronic programming. We carry the Stellantis-compatible diagnostic tools to pair new keys and fobs to your vehicle's SKIM or smart key module.

Key Fob Repair and Battery Replacement

Chrysler Fobik and smart key batteries wear out over time. If your fob is unresponsive, we start with a battery swap and test from there. If the fob itself is damaged, we repair or replace it.

Car Lockout

Locked out of your Chrysler? We use professional non-destructive entry tools to open the door without damaging the vehicle. Minivan sliding door lockouts are something we handle regularly.

Ignition Lock Repair and Replacement

Older Chryslers with a physical ignition cylinder can develop wear over time. The PT Cruiser and Sebring are especially prone to ignition issues. We repair or replace the cylinder and rekey if needed.

Car Key Duplication

If you have one working key, we can make a copy on the spot. This applies to transponder keys, Fobik units, and smart keys.

What Is a Fobik Key?

The Chrysler Fobik Explained

Chrysler owners often call us unsure of what type of key they actually have. The Fobik is the one that causes the most confusion because it does not look like a traditional car key.
A Fobik is a thick plastic fob with buttons on the front and no visible key blade sticking out. Inside the top edge, there is a small emergency blade that slides out when you press a release button. You insert the entire Fobik into a slot on the dashboard or steering column, and the car reads the transponder to verify the key before allowing you to start the engine.
The Fobik was used on the Chrysler 300 (2005 to 2019 depending on trim), the Town & Country (2008 to 2016), and some Pacifica model years during the transition to smart keys. If you own one of these vehicles and your Fobik breaks, gets water damage, or stops being recognized by the car, we carry replacements and program them at your location.
One important note: Fobik keys are not interchangeable between Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep even though they look nearly identical. Each one is programmed to a specific vehicle, so a Dodge Fobik will not work in your Chrysler 300, even if the buttons and shape are the same.

Chrysler Minivan Owners

Key Tips for Pacifica and Town & Country Owners

Chrysler minivans make up a large portion of the Chrysler calls we get in Memphis and the surrounding areas like Southaven, Cordova, and Lakeland. A few things worth knowing:

Sliding door lockouts are common.

Kids climb in through the sliding door, the fob stays in a purse on the front seat, and the doors lock automatically. We handle this regularly and can get you back in quickly without any damage.

The Pacifica uses a different smart key than the 300.

Even though both are current Chrysler models, their fobs are not interchangeable. When you call, give us the exact model and year so we bring the right equipment.

Town & Country Fobik batteries drain faster than you might expect.

If your Town & Country Fobik is only working intermittently or requires you to hold it very close to the dash slot, the battery is likely the issue. We swap them out in minutes, and we always test the fob after the battery change to make sure it is communicating properly.
